New Beginnings Family Academy (NBFA) is proud to announce the reopening of its school library. The updated library includes classroom space, a media center, cozy corner, and an expanded collection of books across all genres.
The ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and hybrid learning resulted in the library being closed since March 2020. The school used that time to engage in a renovation to double the space and triple its collection of new and gently used books.
Promoting literacy is a key pillar of NBFA. The reopening of the library is a critical tool to help students increase their general knowledge and reach their academic goals.
“Reading is the gateway to all learning,” said Mrs.Collette Fearon, lower school principal. “NBFA’s goal is for all children to embrace reading in this building.”

The books in the library are age-appropriate and reinforce NBFA’s emotionally responsive practice approach, which views children’s social and emotional well-being as an avenue for learning.
“The library was designed to be a very calming, welcoming environment,” said Library Media Specialist Elizabeth Doran. “It fosters the students’ creativity, respect, the celebration of diversity as well as academic development.”
A recent Scholastic book fair raised approximately $2,000. Proceeds from the book fair will be used to purchase additional books for the library and classrooms.
“We do not want any empty shelves,” said Ms. Doran.
